The Canadian County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association is a very active and vibrant Association in Canada where Ireland’s sports of Hurling and Gaelic football are played by both Irish and Canadians in cities and towns across the width and breadth of Canada. Currently we have 40 teams embracing both men and women who are playing Ireland’s national games.
Canada has been invited by the Galway County Board of the G.A.A. and Aer Lingus (Ireland's national airline) to send a National team representing Canada in a prestigious Hurling Tournament which takes place in County Galway, Ireland during the third week of September 2013.
Joseph P. Ryan’s Vancouver will send 10 players and the Toronto Hurling Club will send 11 players to Ireland along with 4 selectors who will make up part of the management team.
The competition will involve playing against teams from Australia, Argentina, Britain, U.S.A. and the Gulf. This is a great honour for our athletes to represent Canada and indeed is a once in a lifetime opportunity to be a part of Ireland's nationwide ''Gathering Event.'' This ''Gathering'' is a government initiative which involves inviting the millions of people from around the world of Irish heritage to take part in various events in Ireland throughout 2013.
We sincerely hope that you, in order to fulfill this great moment for our players and team, would support the endeavour. Funds raised will go towards outfitting our team members.
Your best wishes and messages to the team or an individual player or anything else you may wish to include will be posted on to our website www.canada.gaa.ie. Also, sponsorship will be acknowledged with your name in a complimentary advert in our Commemorative Booklet.
Through your support and generosity our County Board would like to make 2013 a special year for the G.A.A. in Canada. Help us send our National team over where they will be worthy representatives and certainly will do us proud.
In closing, on behalf of our Association, I sincerely thank you for investing your time in consideration of our request and we would look forward to your support.
President, Canadian County Board
